OPELOUSAS, LA–DECEMBER 20, 2024– The LQHBA Louisiana Million (RG1) will highlight an exceptional stakes-filled card on Saturday, December 21 at Evangeline Downs. The winning connections will be thrilled, as will eight Louisiana students, when the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) awards a total of $25,000 in scholarships.

High school graduates and seniors graduating in 2025 who wish to attend a higher education institution are eligible. A registration table will be located on the main level of the racetrack from 4:30–6:30 p.m. on December 21. Students must be present for the drawing of two (2) $5,000 scholarships and six (6) additional $2,500 scholarships.

Bruce Salard, LQHBA executive director, is pleased that the association will offer $25,000 on the final major championship night for Louisiana-bred Quarter Horses for the second year in a row. The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) scholarship program has provided financial aid for students. The scholarship program is supported strongly by the LQHBA, its board members, and many generous sponsors.

"There is a rich tradition of family involvement in Louisiana Quarter Horse breeding and racing,” explained Salard. To see young people enjoy a night of the best racing in the country and support their goals of furthering their education is extremely rewarding.”

The LQHBA Scholarship Fund was the vision of the late Jim Mitchell and Executive Director Emeritus Leverne Perry and continues to be supported strongly by the LQHBA. Over $850,000 has been earmarked for this program since its inception in 2001. Louisiana stallion farms contribute a stallion service to provide the primary funding for the Scholarship program. The LQHBA Stallion Auction is live at www.lqhba.com for mare owners to purchase a 2025 breeding to a Louisiana-based stallion.
