PHOENIX, AZ—OCTOBER 28, 2012—Dog Daze Afternoon, a multiple stakes-placed half-brother to champion Jess You And I, sired three of 10 finalists for the AQRA Futurity, including both trials winners, on Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Arizona raceway on November 18th and vie for a portion of an estimated $45,000 purse over 350 yards.
La Perrita de Anya, a filly by Dog Daze Afternoon, was an impressive 1 ¼ length winner in the first trial to post the top qualifying mar of :17.955 seconds for owner/breeder Octavio Rodriguez. Ramon Fontes, Jr. conditions the sorrel miss from the Count Corona mare Countess Anya. Rodolfo Arvizu rode the winner of two of six starts this season.
Madd Dog, an altered son of Dog Daze Afternoon, posted the second fastest clocking of :17.994 while winning the second trial for owner/breeder Ralph and Carolyn Fales.
The 2-year-old won the $83,305 Desert Classic Futurity on May 5 for trainer Matthew Fales. He is 2-2-0 in six starts and has earned $46,697 this season. Madd Dogg is out of the Rocky Jones mare Merri Roc.
Additional stallions with multiple qualifiers to the futurity were Heza Motor Scooter with three and Dejon who sired the 4th and 5th fastest qualifiers. Dog Daze Afternoon, Heza Motor Scooter and Dejon all formerly stood at Fales Ranch near Coolidage, Arizona, when they bred this crop of two-year-olds.
