Matthew Fales Saddles 1-2 Finishers in ASOA Futurity

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 31, 2016—Leading Arizona trainer Matthew Fales closed out the season with a 1-2 punch in the $20,188 ASOA Futurity Saturday afternoon at Turf Paradise. Arizona Icon defeated stablemate Frozen Icon by 1˝ lengths to take the $11,766 winner's purse. Sniper 1 finished half-a-length back in third.

Racing for owner/breeder Las Vegas Ranch, Arizona Icon completed the 400 yards in :20.186 seconds into a 13-mph headwind. Jockey Vince Guerra had the riding assignment aboard the son of first crop sire Texas Icon.

Bred in Arizona from the Feature Mr Jess mare Jess Perfect Girl, Arizona Icon has compiled a (6) 3-1-1 record and earned $30,226. He also won the AQHRA Turf Paradise Futurity in October.

Also by Texas Icon, Frozen Icon races for owner/breeder Martha Wells. The filly out of Icebreaker, by Bono Jazz, earned $3,795 for the effort. Still a maiden from five starts, the chestnut filly has finished second three times this season including second in the AQHRA Turf Paradise Futurity. Jorge Bourdieu had the riding assignment for Fales. She has earned $12,190.

Also a maiden, third place finisher Sniper 1 was making just his third career start for owner/breeder Juan Sepulveda and trainer Heraclio Botello. Mark Jasso rode the gelded son of The Bounty Man out of Secret High by Raise A Secret. He picked up $1,898.

A Mere Icon, Blown A Way, Cozie Icon, Fastest Texas Icon, El Cementero, Also Good, Hc Betinis Choice and Long Colt completed the field.
