Jfr Moonshine Gets New Track Record in Piggin String Stakes

TUCSON, AZ—MARCH 18, 2017—Jfr Moonshine bounced off a fourth-place effort in the March 4th trials to set a new 300 yard track record Saturday afternoon when he defeated Mr Jb Perry by a nose in the $20,000 Piggin String Stakes at Rillito Park.

Ridden by jockey Michael Ybarra, Jfr Moonshine covered the 300-yards in :14.997 seconds to earn a 114-index speed. The previous record of :15.031 seconds was set by Jess Ta Fied in the March 4th trials.

It was the second win in four career starts for the Francisco Rodriguez owned-and-trained son of multiple stakes sire First Moonflash. The Arizona homebred is out of Totally A Looker by Totally Done Gone. The $11,000 payday boosted the 4-year-olds earnings to $12,177.

Runner-up Mr Jb Perry races for owner-trainer Armando Castellanos. Larry Gamez was aboard the Mr Jess Perry 4-year-old from the Chicks Beduino mare Jumpn Beduino. Bred in Oklahoma by Edward and Theresa Denike, Mr Jb Perry earned $4,000.

Jess Wilson, an 8-year-old son of Feature Mr Jess, finished a head back in the blanket finish to pickup $2,000 for third. Charles Acosta saddled the gray gelding for owner Francisco Rivera-Martinez. Don Johnson bred Jess Wilson in California from the Chicks Beduino mare Chicksdashn.
