Copacorona Magic Wins G.C.F.A. Maiden Derby

FREDRICKSBURG, TX—JULY 16, 2017—Copacorona Magic, under jockey Ignacio Bustamante, broke her maiden Sunday afternoon when she defeated stablemate Azoom Again by a half-a-length in the $22,500 G.C.F.A. Maiden Derby at Gillespie County Fairground.

Azoom Again was disqualified for interference and placed sixth, moving Di Southeen James to second and Kk See U Later to third.

Saddled by trainer Brittany Tellez, Copacorona Magic completed the 350 yards in :17.999 seconds, a 90-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind. The daughter of Copacorona Special has compiled a (6) 1-1-0 record and the $7,875 winners' purse boosted her career mark to $8,732.

Carlos Molina owns the bay filly out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Magic Sis. Hernando Guerra Gonzalez is the breeder.

Di Southeen James picked up $3,375 after moving into the place position. Alonso Neri conditions the Jesse James Jr gelding for owner Manuel Rivera. Noe Villatoro rode the sorrel gelding out of Kix N Giggles by Southern Cartel. Isbell Charolais is the breeder.

John Sharp, Jr. trains third-place finisher Kk See U Later for owner/breeder Scott Friesenhahn. Luis Ruiz was aboard the Ab Knight colt out of Executive Maid by Executive Menace. He earned $2,250.

Completing the official order of finish were Zoomin Hero, Redbeard Barbarossa, Azoom Again, Lg Zz Bono, Hiclass Sixes, Boot Scoot N Bok and Jc Stormy Monday.
