Light Up The Dark Dominates Gary Waite Maiden Trials

EVANSTON, WY—AUGUST 5, 2018—Light Up The Dark flew from the gate in a dominating performance Sunday, under jockey Tyson Lusk, at Wyoming Downs to post the fastest qualifying time from three trials contested for the Gary Waite Maiden Stakes (not black type).

A maiden in eight starts at 2 and 3, Light Up Dark has compiled a (7) 2-1-3 record this season. The gray daughter of multiple stake sire Hawkinson completed the 330 yards in a quick :16.607 clocking, to earn a 102 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.

Travis Offret conditions the 4-year-old mare for owner Tom Peffer. Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, Light Up The Dark is out of the Chicks Beduino mare Iba Quick Chick.

Also winless at 2 and 3, Jess Clean Slate has strung back-to-back wins together after getting a ¾ length victory in the second trial to set the second fastest time of :16.684 seconds, a 99 speed index.

Jesus Valenzuela had the riding call aboard the 4-year-old daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess for trainer Ricardo Castillo. BNB Racing LLC and Robert Broderick own the Arizona bred mare from the Corona Cocktail mare Theslatesclean. Bred by H & H Ranch, Inc. she has compiled a (9) 2-1-1 record and earned $8,617.

The opening trial to went to Gary G Carmichael's Utah homebred, Favorite Wonder. Under jockey Cordarelton Been, the 3-year-old completed the 330 yards in :16.739 seconds, a 97 speed index, for the third fastest clocking.

Glade W. Van Tassell saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel from the Heza Fast Man mare Gone Not Forgotten. This year the sorrel colt has compiled a (4) 2-1-1 record and earned more than $3,000.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Wyoming Downs on Sunday, August 19th to vie for the winner's share of $22,000-est. purse.
