OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 10, 2019—Quarter Horse sires dominated six trials Sunday for the $157,577 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Horse Futurity(G1) at Remington Park, siring five of the top seven qualifiers.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 56 two-year-old's who competed in the trials, will return to Remington Park on Saturday, March 23rd to vie for the winner's share of the Grade 1 final going 300 yards.
Js Kool Hand Luke, a colt by Quarter Horse stallion Kool Wagon, defeated Charlie Rising by a neck in the fourth trial to get the fastest qualifying time of :15.656 seconds. Jockey Roberto Meraz, Jr. dug in early and held sway at the finish to get the top mark.
Trainer Carlos Ruiz saddled the gelding out of APHA mare Linda Lajolla by Streakin La Jolla to his first career win for owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Okla.
Charlie Rising, a gelded son of leading APHA sire Crm Livewire, held on for the second fastest time of :15.707 seconds. Charlie Rising was the first of three qualifiers saddled by trainer Dee Keener. Jay Ross owns the colt out of Rare Win by Treasured. Henry and Linda Bowlan is the breeder.

DTL Chasin Tale is from the first-crop of Quarter Horse sire Wagon Tales, a grade 1 son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. His clocking of :15.756 held up as the fourth fastest time on the day. The gelding was the fastest of three Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Horse Futurity finalists for trainer Matt Whitekiller.
DTL Chasin Tale, out of Shez Showin Off by SF Royal Quick Flash, races for DTL Teel Partnership. Dan and Tonya Lester is the breeder.

APHA stallion CRM Livewire led all sires in the three Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Horse Futurity trials, getting four qualifiers on the day.

The Remington Park American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season now moves into a regular Thursday thru Sunday schedule with first post of 6pm nightly, and Sunday afternoon racing at 1:30pm. Racing resumes Thursday thru Sunday, March 14-17. The $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes is the featured event next week for older Quarter Horses at 550 yards.
