ROCK SPRINGS, WY—SEPTEMBER 8, 2019—Rays Lane (7-1) got his second consecutive win on Sunday when he got up by a nose over Gotta Lotta Papa to win the $25,000 Rock Spring Wyoming Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs. La Pistola was a head off the leaders in a blanket finish to get third.
Rays Lane broke out under jockey Elliot Bachicha, Jr., but finished strongest to complete the 350 yards in :17.952 seconds into a 6 mph headwind on a muddy (sealed) racetrack. The $10,000 winners' purse boosted his bankroll to $17,691.
Trainer Josh Taylor saddled the son of second-crop sire Conn Creek for owner Renegade Racing. Ron and Laurie Moosman bred the sorrel gelding from the A Dash Of Beduino mare A Dash Of Steffi. A finalist in the Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association Futurity earlier this season, Rays Lane has compiled a (6) 3-2-0 record.
Ron Moosman and Kathy Moosman's Gotta Lotta Papa picked up $5,000 for his runner-up effort. Riley Moosman trains the son of multiple stakes sire Pappasito who drifted out under jockey Jesus Valenzuela. Bryce Moosman bred the bay filly from the Maknmoves mare Lotta Kat Moves.
Winner of the aforementioned Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association Futurity at Energy Downs in June, Gotta Lotta Papa has banked $37,315 this season.
Chad Giles saddled third-place finisher La Pistola 03 for owner Gary Laramie. The son of Pappasito earned $2,500 for his effort. Jim Nebeker bred the sorrel colt from the Snowbound(TB) mare Dreaming Snow. Santiago Jimenez had the riding call.
Rays Lane rewarded backers with a $14.40 win payoff, $3.60 to place and $4.20 to show. Gotta Lotta Papa returned $4.60 and $3.60 and La Pistola 03 paid $6.80 to show.
Eyesa Special Snoopi, A Lucky Thunder Cat, Steffies Dashn Moves, Reagal Eagle Revenge, Eyesa Special Kaycee, Cathouse Affair and Brash And Sassy completed the futurity field.
