Painted Turnpike Could Set New All-Time Remington Park Record Friday Night

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 11, 2018—Paint racing’s all-time leading money earner, Painted Turnpike, makes his 2018 season debut on Friday night at Remington Park in the $20,000 Paul Harber Memorial. A win by the 5-year-old horse would secure his place in Remington Park history.

Painted Turnpike is currently tied with Country Chicks Man for the most wins during the Remington Park American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season. Each horse has 10 career victories in Oklahoma City.

Country Chicks Man, a Quarter Horse, accumulated his 10 scores at Remington Park from 2004-2008, including eight stakes wins: four consecutive Sooner State Stakes (2005-2008); two Eastex Handicaps (2005-2006), a Leo Stakes (2006) and one Remington Park Championship (2007).

Painted Turnpike’s racing career started in 2015 at Remington Park, when he won the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity along with the Victoria Ennis Memorial and then the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.

In 2016, Painted Turnpike won the Speedhorse Graham Derby along with the Paul Harber Memorial and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes. The 2017 run at Remington Park included the Mister Lewie Memorial as well as a repeat victory in the National Cowboy. Of his 10 career wins at Remington Park, Painted Turnpike has also scored eight victories in stakes races.

The three-time defending World Champion Solid Paint-bred (2015, 2016, 2017), Painted Turnpike is owned and bred in Oklahoma by Nolan Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, Okla. and trained by Matt Whitekiller. Jockey Cody Smith, the only rider to compete aboard the son of leading Quarter Horse sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, will attempt to guide him to the record.

Painted Turnpike is the only Paint racer to win the Speedhorse Triple Crown series for 2-year-olds (2015). Whitekiller is proud of what this horse has achieved, and possibly another accolade in the Paul Harber Memorial. "It’s just another notch in his hat. It’s all for him and he’s earned it. We are just blessed to be a part of it. He is just a spectacular horse."

Painted Turnpike is the heavy morning-line favorite at 4-5 odds on Friday night in the Paul Harber Memorial, the eighth race of 12 on the Remington Park card. The race is for Paints & Appaloosas at 350 yards with a scheduled post time of 9:09pm. Here is the full field of 12, with trainer, jockey and odds by post position and program order:

Painted Turnpike passed legendary Got Country Grip in the summer of 2017 for all-time earnings by a Paint, and brings his bankroll of $385,245 into the Paul Harber Memorial. He has won 20 of 23 career races with a local mark of 10 wins from 11 attempts at Remington Park.
