Outstanding Group Set For Grade 1 Vessels Maturity On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 5, 2019—Zoomin For Spuds, He Looks Hot, and BH Lisas Boy, three of the biggest and most accomplished stars in Quarter Horse racing today, are among the night standouts that will race in the Grade 1, $155,100 Vessels Maturity at 400 yards on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

First post is 6 p.m. with the Vessels Maturity scheduled as the eighth and final race on the card. The Vessels Maturity winner will earn a provisional berth to the Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions to be held on December 14.

The triumvirate of Zoomin For Spuds, He Looks Hot, and BH Lisas Boy has combined to win 46 of 108 career starts for $2,777,525 in earnings. They also represent the last three winners of the Vessels Maturity and they've won 11 Grade 1 stakes races between the three of them.

Jim Walker's Zoomin For Spuds, who won the 2018 Vessels Maturity, is the only of the three already with a provisional berth to the 2019 Champion of Champions following his victory in the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship.

The 6-year-old gelding by Zoomin For Bux is also the only one of the three that's won the 440-yard Champion of Champions before - his victory coming in the 2016 running during a campaign that led to him being named the AQHA champion 3-year-old gelding. Jesus Rios Ayala will ride Zoomin For Spuds for trainer Monty Arrossa. The Idaho-bred runner will be looking for a return to winning form following his third place finish in the Vessels Maturity trials on June 16.

Ed Allred's He Looks Hot was as sharp as any horse on the night of the Vessels Maturity trials. The regal 7-year-old gelding posted the fastest qualifying time of the night in :19.56 while outdueling fellow 7-year-old BH Lisas Boy by a neck in the trials.

The Allred-bred son of Walk Thru Fire won the 2016 Vessels Maturity and has the distinction of being the richest horse in the field with $1,2237,073 in career earnings. He's also won the (GI) Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, (RGI) Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap and the (GI) Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship. Vinnie Bednar will ride He Looks Hot from post number two.

Bill Hoburg's BH Lisas Boy won the 2017 Vessels Maturity and has three other Grade 1 stakes wins to his name (the 2017 and 2018 Brad McKinzie and last year's Bank of America Challenge Championship). Oscar Andrade will ride the Idaho-bred son of Mighty Invictus. The Vessels Maturity field will also feature Lesley Joyner's Jesstacartel, the 2018 PCQHRA Horse of the Year.

The 4-year-old gelding won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby and was second in the Champion of Champions last year. He was in mid-season form when winning the Vessels Maturity by daylight. A1A Racing's Tarzanito, the 2018 AQHA champion aged stallion, won his Vessels Maturity trial by a half-length and was also the hero of Grade 1 Go Man Go. He won his Vessels Maturity trial by a half-length. Katies Easy Moves, Matilda Czech, CM Boom Shakalaka and Eyes The Favorite will complete the field.
