TAHLEQUAH, OK—JANUARY 8, 2018—Former AQHA Racing Oklahoma Hi-Point Distance Horse Droppin Timber died today (January 8) from colic. He was 8-year-old.
Droppin Timber earned the love and admiration from his owner Dr. Frank Greenhaw and racing fans through a six-year racing career that saw him win or place in seven stakes races. He compiled a (43) 9-6-8 record and earned $213,810. The sorrel gelding raced in Oklahoma, Florida, New Mexico and Louisiana.
Trained by Orrin Cogburn, Droppin Timber won the won the Special Hank Handicap in Albuquerque and the Faubourg St. John Stakes at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. He was second in the Herman Jefferson Stakes and third in the Remington Park Distance Handicap(G3), Paul's Valley Handicap(G3), Benny Pennington Stakes and the Expo Square Stakes. He also won five allowance races.
Bred in Oklahoma by Danny Caldwell, Droppin Timber's sire First Timber, a leading sire in Canada, is by Oak Tree Special from the former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash by Dash For Cash. A multiple grade 1 producer, she is a sister all-time leading sire First Down Dash.
Droppin Timber's dam is the Strawfly Special mare Droppindead Gorgeous, a sister to Grade-1 placed Flys R Droppin ($379,566), runner-up in the 1997 All American Futurity. The second dam is the multiple stakes winning L'Natural thoroughbred mare Natural Vallentine, the dam of 7 ROM. She also produced stakes-placed Unbreak My Heart ($21,637), and Grade 2 El Primero Del Ano Derby finalist Royal Domain ($38,607).
