SHELBYVILLE, IN–JUNE 20, 2024–Tres Of Blood gets his second win of the season in the $126,000 QHRAI Derby at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Thursday.
Jockey Edgar Diaz got the leg up aboard Tres Of Blood. The son of Apollitical Blood scored the 400-yard victory on 4/1 odds in :19.960 seconds, clocking a 92 speed index. The slight upset by a neck paid $10.80 to win on a $2.00 wager.
Trainer Claudio Barraza saddled Tres Of Blood, who earned $69,300 for his winning effort in the derby, boosting his lifetime earnings to $124,845. He just broke his maiden in his last start of 2023 and now has three career wins and two seconds from nine starts. He was a finalist in the West Texas Juvenile Stakes.
Tres Of Blood was bred by Keith and Kyla Renfro in Louisiana, who sold him in the 2022 LQHBA Yearling Sale for $48,000.
His current owners, Campos Family Ventures LLC, purchased the bay gelding out of Tres Seis Game Chick by Tres Seis for $72,000 in this year's Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.
Cleave, ridden by Martin Munoz, made a good effort towards the wire but was out-finished for second by Tres Of Blood. The son of Lota Pyc only has one win from four starts and has earned $35,164 for owner/breeder Whiting Ranch. The Ricardo Martinez-trained gelding is out of Valiant Chic by Valiant Hero.
Revvs Cowboy, with Rolando Pina in the irons, placed third. Felix Barraza trained the son of Flying Cowboy 123 for owner Cuadra JM LLC. He has lit the board six of nine starts with two career wins and $42,607 in the bank.
Breeder Paragon Farms LLC sold the son of Revvs Cowboy for $27,000 in the 2022 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. He is out of the First Down Dash mare Revv It Up.
Jon 316, Aj Pure Gold, Hg Favorite Energy, Goodtimefreddash, Buzzbru, Bgk Dynasty, and Favorite Wave round out the order of finish.

The 21st season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing extends through Friday, Nov. 17. Live racing is held Monday through Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Thursday post time set for 2:10 p.m. Saturday racing will be held during the summer months featuring six all-Quarter Horse dates June 3, July 1, July 22, Aug. 12, Sept. 2, and Oct. 7 beginning at 10:45 a.m. Indiana's featured event, the Grade 3 $300,000 Indiana Derby, is set for Saturday, July 8, with a first post time of 12 p.m. Also, the Summer Saturday Racing Series includes seven Thoroughbred racing cards beginning Saturday, June 10, through Saturday, Aug. 26.
