DALLAS, TX—JANUARY 1, 2016—Burns Ranch's Foose led North America's third-crop sires by winners, stakes winners and progeny earnings as 2015 drew to a close.
Through Dec. 31, the champion son of Stel Corona led the 2013 and 2014 "First and Second Crop Leading Sire" First Moonflash by $242,004 in progeny earnings. Foose sired 73 winners from 137 starters in 2015 with 15 stakes winners and $2,245,841 in progeny earnings*.
Foose's top performers this year include the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup winner Rock You, G1 Southern California Derby winner Forget It (winner of three derbies in 2015), La Primera Del Ano Derby(G3) winner Back In Front.
Owned by a syndicate, Foose has sired more than $6 million in earners and $32,300 Average Earnings Per Starter from three crops to reach the track. His 2016 fee has been set at $5,000.
Coming off back-to-back "First and Second Crop Leading Sire" titles, First Moonflash had 50 winners from 131 starters who earned $2,003,837. After getting an All American Futurity(G1) and All American Derby(G1) winner in his first crop to race, First Moonflash added seven more stakes winners in 2015 to bring his total to 15 in three crops. He has sired earners of $7.1 million.
First Moonflash's additional graded stakes performers in 2015 include Zia Futurity(RG1) winner Im A Moon Quest, New Mexico Classic Derby(RG2) winner Major Moonflash, Zia Handicap(RG2) winner Too Flash For You, Shue Fly Stakes(RG2) winner Moonstruck Love, Mountain Top Futurity(RG3) winner Flash Of Love, and Sunburst Stakes(RG3) winner Regal First Moon.
Double LL Farm has set First Moonflash's fee at $12,500 for the 2016 season.
Undefeated champion Tempting Dash earned the #3 Leading Third-Crop Sire title with 47 winners from 131 starters, five stakes winners and earners of $1,804,350.
Last year's champion 2-year-old Kiss My Hocks, by Tempting Dash, was the sire's top stakes horse again in 2015 with a win in the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby(G1) at Ruidoso Downs and earnings of $507,005. Kiss My Hocks has won nine races and earned $1.19 million in two seasons of racing.
Other 2015 graded stakes winners for Tempting Dash were West Texas Derby(G3) winner Tempting Destiny and Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge(G3) winner Undivided Atemption. He also sired Prissy Sin Tacha, third in the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity.
Owned by Simmons Racing, Tempting Dash will stand for a 2016 fee of $15,000.
With only 87 starters, JEH Stallion Station's Inseperable finished #4 on the Leading Third-Crop Sire of Money Earners list with 39 winners and four stakes winners. The former champion's progeny earnings in 2015 came to $892,688.
Grade 1 Sooner State Stakes winner Gold Digging Ashley was his leading money earner with $152,858, despite being retired mid-season after a freak accident. Four-time stakes winner Sudden Separation won the Grade 3 Keokuk Stakes at Prairie Meadows, Queen Washita won the Evangeline Downs Futurity and L Bar D Dixon Delite won the Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity.
Inseperable stands for a 2016 fee of $1,500 at JEH Stallion Station's-Oklahoma Division near Purcell.
Double Eagle Ranch's Winners Version rounds out the Top 5 Leading Third-Crop Sires with 31 winners from 74 starters and progeny earnings of $892,688. He added seven stakes winners in 2015.
New Mexico HBA Stakes(RG2) winner Seeyoulateralligator was his sires' leading money earner of 2015 with $83,009. The multiple stakes winner has earned over $207,000. Winners Version also sired RG2 winner Blazin Version in 2015, and stakes winners Winners For You, Winners Cool Chick, Streak N Diamonds, Winners Black Gold, and Pocitas Version.
Winners Versions 2016 fee has been set at $2,500.
Rounding out the "Top Ten Third-Crop Sires of Money Earners" are #6 Escondido Beach ($736,711), #7 Red Storm Cat ($689,173), #8 Mighty Corona ($617,827), #9 Jess Zoomin ($508,744) and #10 Hard Hitting ($464,528).
