LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 22, 2012—Ralph Lima Terra’s Brazilian star Kas On Fly scored his second win in a row after beating nine rivals in the $35,000 First Handicap Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer Paul Jones, Kas On Fly had a commanding lead the entire way en route to a half-length victory over Chad Hart and Bobby Cox’s local stakes winner Jumpn Shake and 2011 Champion of Champions runner-up Sparky E Boy. The 5-year-old Kas On Fly was making only his fifth start in the U.S., but he’s already won twice and finished second another two times.

“I am really happy about his win,” said Jones, who this year will win his 14th Quarter Horse training title at Los Alamitos in the last 15 years. “He beat a couple of really nice horses in Jumpn Shake and Sparky E Boy. It took Kas On Fly a couple of races to get used to the way things are done in the United States. He was a really good horse in Brazil, but they have racing lanes on the track and run during the daytime so it’s totally different than here. Since he had run in Brazil he could not compete in maiden races here so he had to start off in conditioned races. It took him a little bit of time to figure things out, but he’s now won two races in a row.”

Bred in Brazil by Marcelo Jorge, who a couple of years ago campaigned PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity winner The Goodbye Kisser at Los Alamitos, Kas On Fly is the son of Signed To Fly and out of the Blazen Bryan mare Blazen Of Glory. He earned $19,250 for the win after covering the 400 yards in :19.785.

Trained by Jaime Gomez, Jumpn Shake earned $7,875 for running second. The Jumpn gelding is owned by Bobby Cox and Chad Hart.

Sparky E Boy, who finished just behind the Paul Jones-trained champion Good Reason SA in the 2011 Champion of Champions, earned $4,375 for running third. Juan Godinez trains the Hawkinson 5-year-old for Reed Pierson.

Storm Feet, Cash Him Out, Costly Man, Hot Hitter, Significant Cartel, Down Rite Royal and Thinkrich N Royal completed the field.

The First Handicap is named in honor of Quarter Horse racing’s all-time leading stallion, First Down Dash.

Daytime racing continues at Los Alamitos on Sunday with a first post time of 2 p.m. for the meet’s official final program of racing for the meeting. The racing action will be highlighted by a mandatory Pick 6 payout. The Pick 6 will have a carryover of $54,342 going into Sunday’s closing card. Opening day for the 2012-2013 meet starts right back up on Friday night with a first post time of 7 p.m.
