Dashing Jet Rio Takes Off To Win The $246,142 Louisiana Lassie Futurity

VINTON, LA—MAY 24, 2013—Douglas O. Traylor’s filly Dashing Jet Rio used a determined effort to win the $246,142 Louisiana Lassie Futurity (RG2) for 2-year-old Louisiana-breds competing at 330 yards Friday night. Under jockey Jesse Chavis, Dashing Jet Rio defeated Sandra Sue Blue by a neck while Scooter Prize finished another half-length back in third.

Dashing Jet Rio, who is conditioned by Kenneth L. Roberts, Sr., covered the distance over a fast track in a time of 16.547. The clocking represented a speed index of 96.

The win by Dashing Jet Rio was the second of her undefeated career. She also won her trial for the Louisiana Lassie Futurity on May 3. Friday night’s effort was worth $123,071 and raised her fledgling bankroll to $132,671.

Sent to the gate at odds of 5-2, Dashing Jet Rio returned $7.80 to win, $4.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Sandra Sue Blue paid $4.40 to place and $3.20 to show. Scooter Prize was worth $3.80 to show.

Dashing Jet Rio is a 2-year-old filly by Jet Black Patriot out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Dashing Obsession. She was bred in Louisiana by Wa Bruce Susan Karen Darling.

Sandra Sue Blue added $41,844 for finishing second, boosting her bankroll to $278,4492. Jose Garcia conditions the Jess Louisiana Blue filly for owner Jose Mendoza. Regular rider Eddi Martinez was aboard the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) in her last start. Kathleen and Steve Billings bred the gray miss from the Mr Eye Opener mare Madame Mayor.

Ana Alvidrez's Scooter Prize earned $24,615 for finishing third. Miguel Rodriguez saddled the First Prize Perry filly out of Royal Baby Scooter by A Royale High. Raul Ramirez, Jr. was aboard the John Leger Louisiana-bred.

Completing the field were Miss Runaway Dash, Kiss You All Over, Wow What A Prize, Tf Southern Strut, Callas Red Stilettos and Dashformoomoo. Carita Angel was scratched.

Delta Downs will wrap up the race week on Saturday with a 10-race program that begins at 6:45 p.m.
