RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 11, 2014—Leading New Mexico sire Jesse James Jr sired half the field Friday afternoon for the 400-yard Zia Futurity(RG1) at Ruidoso Downs. MJ Farms, where the son of Mr Jess Perry stands, were the breeder of four of those finalists.
The $392,253 purse for the 400-yard Zia Futurity is the largest purse offered during the Zia Festival on July 26-27. The Zia Festival has grown into one of the most popular weekends of the Ruidoso summer season. The racing celebrates New Mexico-bred competition and the grandstand is filled with vendors offering Southwestern themed wares. The futurity for accredited New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds is set for Sunday (July 27).
Terry and Irene Stennett’s De Loach made a big late charge to win the fourth of 10 trials and set the fastest-qualifying time Friday afternoon. The gelded son of Jesse James Jr raced to the second win of his four-race career when he drew out to the one-half-length win with the afternoon’s top time of :19.471 for 400 yards. He also won his Mountain Top Futurity trial and qualified for that futurity for trainer Blane Wood.
The sorrel is out of MJ Farms' Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Chapelle. The Stennnett paid $44,000 for De Loach at the Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale last August.

Following her under the wire were Hard To Be Blue by first crop sire Hard Hitting with a :19.588 time and Jess Charm another MJ Farms' homebred with a :19.613 mark.
Girlonthego and Chamiso James, a $15,000 supplemental nominee, ran one-two in the 10th trial with the third-and-fourth-fastest qualifying marks. Girlonthego, a daughter of Man On The Move was timed in :19.547 to be the only filly that qualified out of the 10 trials. She races for Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez and was saddled by Juan Gonzalez. Jaime Leos had the riding assignment.
Chamiso James, another Jesse James Jr colt was given a :19.559 time. He was one of two finalists saddled by trainer Umberto Bello. Diamond Racing, LLC owns the colt ridden by Alonso Rivera.
Wesley Giles was the only other trainer with two qualifiers.
