Training Races Postponed After 10 Races, High-Seller Rip Tide Raced To Fastest Time

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 4, 2015—Heavy rain and hail forced postponement of the 15 non-betting training races at Ruidoso Downs after the 10th race, but not before Rip Tide showed his potential in the seventh race.

The training races will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. The postponed races will be added to the Tuesday and Wednesday programs.

Reliance Ranches LLC’s Rip Tide impressed when he won his trial over a fast track in :15.677 for the 300 yards. He is trained by Eddie Willis and Jimmy Brooks was aboard.

Rip Tide is eligible to the Grade 1, $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity; the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity and the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity. The 440-yard All American Futurity offers the world’s largest purse for any two-year-old race or any quarter horse race.

If any horse wins all three futurities then the horse’s connections earn a $4 million bonus.

The training race victory is not the first time Rip Tide has gained attention at Ruidoso Downs. Last Labor Day weekend, Rip Tide was the high seller at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on a $300,000 bid. He is a powerful gray son of Corona Cartel and the stakes winning, 440-yard track-record setter Little Surfer by First Down Dash. Rip Tide’s second dam is broodmare of the year Runaway Wave, dam of world champion Wave Carver and two-time champion Ocean Runaway.
