Cowboys Dynasty Gets Third Straight, Sets Top Mark In Rillito Derby Trials

TUCSON, AZ—FEBRUARY 11, 2017—Coming off a win in the AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity in December, Cowboys Dynasty rolled to a 1-1/4 length win and the top qualifying mark for the Rillito Derby Saturday afternoon in Tucson.

The fastest eight qualifiers, from two trial races contested on Rillito's Park's opening day card, will return to the historic Arizona raceway on Saturday, February 26th to vie for the winner's share of a $15,000 purse over 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Osuna, Cowboys Dynasty broke out but finished gamely to complete the 350-yard task in :17.574 seconds, a 95-speed index and the top qualifying time.

Owned-and-trained by Alvaro Monteverde, the son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty has compiled a (8) 3-1-2 record while earning $37,281. Bred in Arizona by Corner K Quarter Horses LLC, Cowboys Dynasty is out of the On A High mare Mexican Radio.

Sniper 1 defeated Discrete by a nose in the first trial to put up the second fastest qualifying time of :17.588 seconds, another 95-speed index. Also ridden by Jesus Osuna, Sniper 1 races for owner/breeder Juan Sepulveda and trainer Heraclio Botello.

The Arizona-bred son of The Bounty Man is out of Secret High by Raise A Secret. Third in the Margie Bryan ASOA Futurity in December, Sniper 1 has won two of six starts and earned $8,410.
