Mojo Perry Best In Grade 3 West Texas Derby Trials

SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 10, 2017—Grade 1 finalist Mojo Perry raced to a 1 ¾ length win and the top qualifying time for the Grade 3 $162,600 West Texas Derby on Friday afternoon at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

The top ten qualifiers, from 48 three-year-olds who participated in five trial races today, will return to Sunland Park on Sunday, April 2nd to vie for a $76,422 winners' purse going 400 yards.

Under a confident ride by jockey Salvador Martinez, Mojo Perry competed the 400-yard course in :19.644 seconds to record the top qualifying mark. It was the first win in two starts this season for the daughter of leading sire Mr Jess Perry.

Trainer Chris Zamora conditions the sorrel filly for owner LMG Racing, Inc. Bred in Texas by Jeffrey Lee Jones, Mojo Perry was a finalist in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, Grade 2 West Texas Futurity and Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity last season.

Out of the First Down Dash mare Jump Down First, Mojo Perry has compiled an (11) 3-2-0 record and banked $71,797.

Wild Mares Milk defeated Attack The Wind by a neck in the fourth trial to post the second fastest qualifying time of :19.732 seconds. The first of two West Texas Derby(G3) finalists for her sire Desirio today, Wild Mares Milk races for owner/breeder J & SM, Inc.

Jockey Esgar Ramirez had the riding assignment aboard the Texas-bred for trainer Fred Danley. The lightly raced filly, from the Feature Mr Jess mare Kellies Feature, scored her second win from five career starts.
