SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 17, 2017—Leading New Mexico sire First Moonflash dominated Friday's $362,965 New Mexican Spring Futurity(RG2) trials, siring five finalists, including the four fastest qualifiers.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 81 state-bred 2-year-olds who participated in nine trial races today (Friday), are set to return to Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino on Sunday, April 9th to vie for the $170,593 winner's purse going 300 yards.

Flash Moonfire was much the best under jockey Manuel Gutierrez, breaking his maiden in his first career start by 2½ lengths. The son of champion First Moonflash completed the 300-yard test in :15.244 seconds, an 89-speed index with a 3-mph tailwind.

Trainer Felipe Flores, Jr. conditions the $27,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for owner David Valdez. Mike Abraham bred the first-time starter from the stakes winning Walk Thru Fire mare Required Fire. This is the first foal for the Grade 1 finalist.

Another Ruidoso Select Yearling graduate Miles Of Flash broke his maiden by one-length in the fifth trial to record the second fastest qualifying time of :15.424 seconds. Also by First Moonflash in the first foal out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Lalia, Miles Of Flash is races for owners David Barrett and J & SM, Inc. This the family of All American Futurity(G1) winner Falling In Love Again.

Esgar Ramirez had the riding assignment aboard MIles Of Flash for trainer Fred Danley.

Danley and Ramirez teamed again in the final trial to qualify Cadilac Flash, a First Moonflash filly from the Celadon mare Cowgirl Cadilac. The chestnut filly defeated Tempting Star Gazer by a neck to record the third fastest time of :15.486 seconds. Also, owned by Fred, Cadilac Flash was bred by Rita Danley.

Wes Giles joined Danley as the only trainer with multiple qualifiers, getting the 4th and 9th fastest.

Second crop sire Big Daddy Cartel was the only other sire with multiple qualifiers getting 7th fastest Jans Cartel and 9th fastest Bigg Daddy. The son of leading living sire Corona Cartel also had three trial winners.
