LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 18, 2017—Trainer Charles Treece had a good morning watching his 2-year-olds shine during gate workouts on Saturday morning. The Treece-trained Wild Wonder was the headliner in the 220-yard drills, as the colt by Stel Corona posted the first :12.10 gate work by a 2-year-old this year.

Making his second gate work of the season, Wild Wonder looked like a seasoned veteran, as he flew away from the gate with a smooth motion and nice stride. Bred by Ed Allred, Wild Wonder’s first work was a :12.50 drill on March 4. Out of the productive broodmare California Wildfire, Wild Wonder is a full brother to Golden State Million Futurity and Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist Chicanery. He’s also a half-brother to major futurity finalists More Than Wild and Big Time Wild. Wild Wonder is owned by a partnership that includes Davidson, Cannon, et. al.

The Treece-barn also enjoyed a solid work by Chuck Stojan’s Stripsteak, a gelding by One Sweet Jess that covered the distance in :12.30. Stripsteak is out of Ruths Chris, a winner of $38,395 that made three stakes appearances including the Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge. The colt also posted a gate work (:12.60) back on March 4.

Duke Racing LLC’s Sweet 16 had the second fastest work on the Saturday tab. The Kentucky-bred filly covered the 220 yards in :12.20, this impressive drill coming in her first gate work of the year. Trained by Juan Aleman, Sweet 16 is by Pyc Paint Your Wagon and out of the Grade 1 winner Fovee.

A mare sired by the Thoroughbred Cuvee, Fovee won the prestigious Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap in 2011 and competed in that year’s Champion of Champions. She was third in the 2009 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Sweet 16 is a half-sister to both 2016 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity finalist Billionaire Boy and multiple derby finalist Runs By You, whose seven stakes appearances include the Los Alamitos Super Derby, Golden State Derby, La Primera Del Ano Derby and PCQHRA Breeders Derby.

Ed Allred’s No Kiddin posted :12.30 clocking in his second gate work of the year for trainer James Glenn, Jr. Sired by Kiddy Up and out of Girls Choice, the gelding No Kiddin is a full brother to Kiddy Up Cowgirl, the third place finisher in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby earlier this year. Kiddy Up Cowgirl also finished fourth in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity last year and ran in the Governor’s Cup Futurity.

The Allred and Glenn, Jr. combination also had the Kiddy Up gelding Be Quiet delivered a :12.30 clocking. Working evenly with an unnamed 2-year-old, Be Quiet is out of the Check Him Out mare Thinking Out Loud. Be Quiet is a full brother to multiples stakes winner Blabber, which finished first in the 2015 California Breeders Debutante Stakes and 2016 AB What A Runner and Elan Again handicaps. This is the family of the stakes winner Just Think.

Ed Allred’s Resolutely was another young runner to post a :12.30 clocking on Saturday morning. The Walk Thru Fire colt is out of stakes winning Moonlight Corona and is also from the Glenn. Jr. stable of runners.

Lazy Creek Ranch and Jerry McAlevey’s On Our Way was another one to deliver a nice :12.30 clocking. The One Sweet Jess filly is out of the stakes winner Attack The Cartel, an iron tough mare that competed in 10 stakes races during her Los Alamitos career.

Attack The Cartel was also represented on Saturday morning by Walk It Man, which posted a :12.40 clocking. The Walk Thru Fire colt is a full brother to Attack The Wind, the winner of the Golden State Juvenile Stakes. Attack The Wind was second in a trial to the West Texas Derby on March 10.

One other notable on Saturday morning is Howard Nichols’ Live It Up, a colt by Foose which posted a time of :12.40. Live It Up’s dam is This Partys On Fire, a winner of $576,729 in her racing career that included a win in the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity. Live It Up is a half-brother to 2014 California Breeders Freshman Stakes winner Bouncer.
