Frozen Icon Breaks Maiden with Top Mark In AQRA Maiden Stakes Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 9, 2017—Frozen Icon, a multiple stakes finalist last season, finally got her first win on Sunday when she posted the top qualifying time for the AQRA Maiden Stakes (not black type) at Turf Paradise.

Frozen Icon went wire-to-wire under jockey Jorge Bourdieu, to complete the 350 yards in :17.895 seconds, a 90 speed index into a 7 mph headwind.

Matthew Fales conditions the Texas Icon 3-year-old filly for owner/breeder Martha Wells. Out of the Bono Jazz mare Ice Breaker, the multiple stakes-placed filly has compiled a (8) 1-4-1 record and earned $17,721.

The lightly raced California-bred Volcano got his first win in the second trial to post the second fastest time of :17.935 seconds. Eloy Navarro saddled the son of leading second third crop sire One Sweet Jess for owner Ralph Leyva.

Ridden by jockey Armando Cervantes, Volcono was making only his fourth career start. Gustavo De La Torre bred the 3-year-old from the Corona Cartel mare Miss Lily Rose.
