Bet I Make U Famous Takes Top Billing In The Virgil Bond Stakes At Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—JUNE 17, 2017—Bet I Make U Famous, under jockey Alfonso Lujan, cleared he field on his way to a two-length win over Corona La Jolla in the $40,000 Virgil Bond Stakes Friday night at Delta Downs.

Saddled by trainer Trey Ellis, Bet I Make U Famous completed the 870 yards in :36.062 seconds, a 94-speed index. It was the fifth win in 22 starts for the 5-year-old son of leading sire One Famous Eagle. The $15,000 Virgil Bond winners' purse boosted his earnings to $76,429.

Bred in Texas, form the First Down Dash mare Line Bet, Bet I Make U Famous races for owners Vernon Harmon and Robert Moudy III. James Markum and Robert Moudy bred the sorrel gelding.

Corona La Jolla, a multiple stakes winning son of Tinys First Corona, races for owner Crown Racing and trainer Judd Kearl. Donell Blake rode the Texas bred from the Streakin La Jolla mare Mary La Jolla. Bred by Donna Mushinski, the eight-time winner picked up $5,000 to roll his bankroll total to $90,291.

Following an awkward start, post-time favorite B And G Fast put in a late rally under jockey Donald Watson to get third. It was the first start of the season for the son Heza Fast Dash trained by Kenneth Roberts, Sr. and owned by Mo Racing. Bred by B & G Investments Inc., the 5-year-old picked up $4,400 for his effort.

Sent to the gate at odds of 8-1, Bet I Make U Famous returned 19.20 to win, $5.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Corona La Jolla was worth $3.60 to place and $3.40 to show. B and G Fast Dash paid $2.20 to show.

Completing the field Game Own, Im Mighty Fast and Agoutis Snowplow.

Delta Downs will close out its seventh week of American Quarter Horse Racing on Saturday night with another 10-race program that kicks off at 6:15 pm CT. Saturday featured race is the $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes (RG2) for 3-year-olds and up going 400 yards.
