Mighty Lucille Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Qualifying Time For Sport Of Speed Sale Futurity

LETHBRIDGE, ALB—JUNE 3, 2017—Mighty Lucille, a $4,700 Sport of Speed Sale repurchase last September, broke her maiden in her second career start on Saturday while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Sport Of Speed Sale Futurity at Lethbridge.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from three trial races of juveniles who passed through the 2016 Sport Of Speed Yearling Sale, will return to the Canadian racecourse on Sunday, June 18th to vie for the winners' share of the $32,090 purse going 330 yards.

Mighty Lucille put in a big finish in the first trial under jockey Dwight Lewis to defeat The Western Special by one-length. She clocked the fastest qualifying time of :16.418 seconds, into a 30-mph headwind, to get the top mark.

Trainer Allen Goodsell condition the Alberta homebred daughter of multiple stakes sire Mighty B Valiant for owner/breeder Jeffrey Wilson. The chestnut filly, who was second in her maiden start at Miles City on May 20,, is out of Tanya Turner by Check Him Out.

Another sale repurchase, Llomars Dream, posted a half-length win in the second trial for owner/breeder and trainer Buckey Stockwell. Ridden by jockey Jose Rocha, the Azoom filly clocked the second fastest qualifying time of :16.483 seconds, into a 30-mph headwind.

Repurchased by Stockwell for $3,000, Llomars Dream is out of the First Down Dash mare Dazzled. Saturday's trial race was the filly's career debut.

Bs Playing For Keeps, another Azoom 2-year-old, finished second in the second trial to get the third fastest time of :16.575 seconds. Alejandro Almazan had the riding call for trainer Janice Sather.

Janice and Barry Sather purchased the brown colt at last year's sale for $8,700 for breeders' Buckey and Beverly Stockwell.

Mr Eleanor, a $9,500 repurchase, was a 2¼ length winner in the final trial and would have gotten the top qualifying spot but was disqualified and placed fourth after breaking in at the start. Trainer Allen Goodsell conditions the First Timber gelding for owner/breeder Teagan Goodsell.

Sires with multiple qualifiers include the aforementioned Azoom and First Timber who got two apiece. Buckey Stockwell was the leading trainer with three qualifiers and Janice Sather had two.
