Rail Move Pays Off For Jess A Hilbily Bone In Remington Park Distance Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 3, 2017—Jess A Hilbily Bone won the Grade 2, $50,588 Remington Park Distance Championship with a dramatic rally up the rail to win by 1-1/4 lengths as the betting favorite at 2-1 odds.

After settling back to fifth-place in the early running of the 870-yard race around the turn, the gelded son of Rock Solid Jess, out of the Game Patriot mare, Imaginiff, Jess A Hilbily Bone was ridden courageously by jockey Benito Baca. The pair had notched an emphatic 5-1/2 length win the race prior, on May 6th.

"After that last race, his heart just grew 10-times. He’s been training awesome and I knew if he had a little bit of daylight he was going to go on by," Baca said.

The homebred of Rockin J Running Horses of Gatesville, Texas earned $29,838 for his connections and boosted his lifetime earnings to $119,610. He covered the distance in 45.303 seconds over a fast track.

Jess A Hilbily Bone is trained by Tammy Johnson and has now won eight of 35 lifetime races.

"This horse is game. It’s unusual for a horse to gain after they run as much as we’ve run him here. Every time, he’s gained weight. We are very proud of everything that has happened here. It’s been a wonderful meet," said Johnson.

Jess A Hilbilly Bone paid $6.80 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Eyesa Shoofly Dandy was the second-choice in the win wagering at 5-2 odds after he had won the Grade 3 Pauls Valley Handicap in his previous Remington Park race. He set the pace and was caught late to pay $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Admiral Zoomwalt raced three-wide throughout and stubbornly gave way to finish third, paying $4 to show.

Runner-up Eyesa Shoofly Dandy races for owners Curtis Smith and Steve Holt. Judd Kearl conditions the son 6-year-old son of Gold Medal Jess from the Willie Wicked mare Miss Sound Viking. Donell Blake rode the Wesley Ann Anglin Oklahoma-bred gelding. A graded stakes winner, he earned $10,306 to bring his earnings mark to $149,671.

Also a stakes winner, third-place finisher Admiral Zoomwalt was saddled by trainer John Weghorst and ridden by jockey James Flores. Justin Lee Robinson owns the 5-year-old Shazoom gelding out of Tellin It all by First Down Dash. Bred by Mike Nobles and Christine Hudson, Admiral Zoomwalt picked up $5,668 for the effort.

Give It To Shaq, Cjs Rocksolid, Mixed Fantasy, Silver Citizen and Executive Trust completed the field.

Live horse racing is now on hiatus at Remington Park until the 2017 Thoroughbred Season which runs Aug. 25 thru Dec. 17.
