Iza Captain Prevails In Dolls Prodigy Stakes

AURORA, CO—JUNE 4, 2017—Iza Captain got up over Perkin Desire by a nose on Sunday to win the $15,000 Dolls Prodigy Stakes at Arapahoe Park Sunday afternoon. Dcgoldenhawk was a neck back in the blanket finish to get third place.

Ridden by jockey Vince Guerra, Iza Captain stepped over the 350 yards, into an 8-mph headwind, in :17.992 seconds. It was the first career win from nine starts for the son of multiple stakes sire Captain Courage.

Julio Corral conditions the 3-year-old gelding for owners Pedro and Lilia Andazola. Richard and Genevieve Herrman bred Iza Captain in Colorado from the Mr Eye Opener mare Iza Flyin Eye. The $8,280 winners' purse more than doubled his earnings total to $13,200.

Making her 3-year-old debut, runner-up Perkin Desire races for owner/trainer Roberto Gomez. Raul Gutierrez had the riding assignment aboard the Colorado-bred daughter of champion sire Desirio. Bred by Randall and Kasey Hund, from the Dash For Perks mare Fols Perky Cat, Perkin Desire earned $2,760 for the effort.

Making only his third career start, Dcgoldenhawk picked up $1,380 for his third-place finish. Miguel Pena trains the One Sweet Jess 3-year-old for owner Margarita Cardenas Ramirez. Edwin Pena had the riding call aboard the sorrel gelding out of Sheza Special Pie by Pie In The Sky. Ruben Chavez is the breeder.

Girl With Guns, Duly Sworn, I Llike To Run and Go Streak Lightning completed the field.
