RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 10, 2017—Mr Perry Strong edged away from Hez Our Prize to win the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational by half-a-length Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs. Bf Favorite Folly finished a neck back in third.

Ridden by jockey Salvador Martinez, Mr Perry Strong went wire-to-wire over the 350 yards in :17.633 seconds, a 91-speed index into an 11-mph headwind.

Trainer Michael Joiner saddled the son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry to his second career win for owners Licon Farm and Ranch LLC.

"He’s just a pro and does everything right," said Joiner.

The $25,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate was bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms. Out of the Strawfly Special mare Strength In Numbers, Mr Perry Strong picked up $42,000 for the win.

Joiner said the next start for Mr Perry Strong will probably be the trials to the Grade 1, $1-million (est.) Rainbow Futurity on July 7-8.

Multiple graded stakes-placed Hez Our Prize earned $18,000 for his second-place effort. Clinton Crawford trains the son of leading first crop sire Hez Our Secret for owner Preston Cloud. Also third in the RG2 Remington Park Futurity earlier this year, Hez Our Prize has banked $138,163 this season.

Weetona Stanley bred the gray colt in Oklahoma from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc Oh Whatta Prize. Cesar Gomez was up.

Birrell Farms' homebred Bf Favorite Folly earned $10,000 for third. Still a maiden from three starts, trainer Wesley Giles trains the Favorite Cartel filly out of Eyesa Folly by Eyesa Special. Cipriano Vidana was riding.

Completing the field were Dash For Stone, Eyesa Superstitious, Vf Zeus, Kiss My Ivory, Shes Political, One Cruisin Corona and My Bucket Is Full.
