Dashin Red Cat Flies Late To Win TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG3)

SELMA, TX—JULY 1, 2017—Under jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez Dashin Red Cat flew late down the stretch to defeat Tacky Lil Groundhog by a neck in the $95,540 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG3) Saturday night at Retama Park. Coronarita Blue finished another neck back in the blanket finish to get third.

Racing for owner/breeder Douglas Grenz, the Washing-bred son of multiple stakes sire Red Storm Cat covered the 350 yards in :17.822 seconds, into a 15 mph headwind, to earn a 96 speed index.

Trainer Juvenal Licona-Vazquez saddled the sorrel gelding to his second win in three starts this season. The $38,216 winners' share of the purse boosted Dashin Red Cat's earnings total to $40,755. The homebred is out of Dashin Chicks by Chicks Beduino.

Holly Hooper's Tacky Lil Groundhog earned $19,108 for second. Angel Sanchez trains the Tac It Like a Man filly out of Im Not Hillary by Executive Menace. Luciano Duenez was aboard the Sarah Huskey Texas-bred.

Still a maiden from five starts, Panela Stone's homebred Coronarita Blue earned $9,554 for third. Leon Bard conditions the Fantastic Corona Jr filly out of Rc Shake Em Blue by Royal Shake Em. Noe Villatoro had the riding call.

Moon Dash Cartel, Hustling Coronas, Shades Of Gray, Ivory N Ashes, Tempting Feefee, Channing and Down N Cruzin completed the field.
