EVANSTON, WY—JULY 2, 2017—Queen Of The Kartel, third in 89 & Under finale at Laurel Brown June 6th, flew from the outside post on Sunday to get the top qualifying time for the 89 & Under Stakes (not black type) at Wyoming Downs.
Ridden by jockey Daniel Carillo, Queen Of The Kartel covered the 400 yards in a quick :19.744 seconds, a 96 speed index, to record the top qualifying time.
Trainer Josh Taylor conditions the daughter of multiple stakes sire Carters Cartel for owner Jerry D. Chapman. The top three qualifiers came from the first trial.
A finalist in last year's Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course and the Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity, the bay filly has compiled a (12) 3-0-2 record and banked $10,859.
Jimmy and Elaine Coffman bred Queen Of The Kartel in Texas from the Illegal Runaway mare Flyin Legal.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Wyoming Downs on Sunday, July 16th to vie for the winner's share of a $4,500-added purse going 400 yards.
