AURORA, CO—JULY 9, 2017— Silver Citizen and jockey Fernando Camacho flew from the gate and won the $15,000 Izyk Stakes as the post-time favorite in Sunday’s feature race at Arapahoe Park.

The son of Silver City made 7-5 look like easy money in his second attempt at the 870-yard distance, at one point enjoying a 5-length lead over the field at the top of the stretch. The pair posted a time of 45.780 for the 870-yard event and earned a speed index of 97.

Trained by Miguel Pena for owner Santos Lopez, Silver Citizen was bred in Texas by Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Bred top and bottom for distance, Silver Citizen is out of the Special Effort mare Red Alarm.

The 4-year-old gelding was a familiar face in the Arapahoe winner’s circle; he won the $88,000 Mile High Derby last August. Though this was his first win since then and his first race back at Arapahoe, he has competed in the Hobbs America Derby, the SLM Big Daddy Stakes, and the Remington Park Distance Handicap.

Rock On Dave broke second to last from the outside post and ran wide but closed fast to nose out Mo Rock for second place at the wire. Janet Meadows’ homebred gelding is trained by Kenneth Gleason; Nathan Harr had the call for Sunday’s race.

The 5-year-old Colorado-bred gelding is a Thoroughbred by Grand On Dave, out of the Oliver’s Twist mare Oliver’s Witch. This was his first attempt in a mixed-breed hook race in his 18 lifetime starts, all at Arapahoe.

Another Thoroughbred, Mo Rock, completed the trifecta in the Izyk Stakes. Mo Rock was in a comfortable second-place position until he was caught at the wire. Unlike Rock On Dave, Mo Rock is a veteran at this distance, with a 10 for 12 lifetime record in the money at 870 yards, including four wins.

The Rocky Bar gelding was bred in Arizona by Kevin Eikleberry, out of the Phone Trick mare Choppers Passion. He is trained by Ramiro Barraza Sosa for owners Ramiro Barraza and Veronica Gallegos. Karlo Lopez was aboard the 7-year-old for the Sunday’s race.

Completing the field were Big Time Toast, Crhossgo, Somethingaboutnick, She’s Savvy and Tebow Time.
