Carson City Girl Bounces In First Moonflash Maturity Victory

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—AUGUST 27, 2017—Coming off a troubled ninth place finish in the RG2 Zia Handicap on July 30, Carson City Girl defeated posttime favorite Play Misty Foreme by half-a-length Sunday afternoon to win the $102,558 First Moonflash Maturity at The Downs in Albuquerque.

Ridden by jockey Alfredo Sigala, Carson City Girl completed the 440 yards in :21.213 seconds, a 103-speed index with a slight tailwind. The sorrel filly banked the $51,279 winner's share of the maturity purse.

Trainer Fred Danley saddled the multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Woodbridge to her sixth career win in 17 starts. She has banked nearly $275,000. In her previous aforementioned start, she lost her patch a break and never had a shot.

Carson City girl races for owners David and Sandra Barrett. The 4-year-old was bred by MJ Farms from the Hidden City (TB) mare Racetrack Barbie (TB).

MJ Farms also bred runner-up Play Misty Foreme. Trainer Shae Cox saddled the daughter of Jesse James Jr for owner Robert Smith. Already a graded stakes winner, the 4-year-old filly picked up $20,512 to increase her bankroll to $194,866. She is out of the Blushing Bug mare Arbor Mist and was ridden by jockey Jose Luis Enriquez.

Tyger Power finished a head back to pocket the third-place check valued at $12,307. Trainer Michel Barber conditions the Woodbridge 5-year-old gelding for owner Gertie Mills. Bred by R. Doug Mills, from the Haymarket (TB) mare Bonita Tyger (TB), Tyger Power was ridden by Victor Escobar.

Comin To Your Town, Osbaldo, Fire Stones, Dont Ever Slow Down, Dungarees and Major Bites completed the field.

The First Moonflash Maturity honors one of New Mexico's leading sires, First Moonflash. The New Mexico-bred 12-year-old son of First To Flash was the 2009 AQHA Racing Champion Aged Stallion. In only five crops to race, he has sired 49 stakes horses including, an All American Futurity(G1) and All American Derby(G1) winner, as well as earners of more than $9.7 million.
