Dicecapades Waltzes Home in Iowa Double Gold Derby Win

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 2, 2017— Multiple stakes winner Dicecapades padded her resume with a victory in the $84,526 Iowa Double Gold Derby on Saturday at Prairie Meadows. Jockey James Flores guided the Oklahoma-bred filly to a one-length victory in the 400-yard event, with a final time of 19.479 and a speed index of 99.

Dicecapades is trained by Larry Sharp for owners Jon Barley and Brant Barley. The daughter of Prospect To the Top was bred by J. Garvan Kelly and Nancy Yearsley, out of the Tres Seis mare Dicey Riley.

The filly was the fifth-fastest qualifier, finishing second in her trial behind La Mos Pyc, who ran fourth in the final.

After debuting and winning in a maiden claiming race, Dicecapades continued to win the Laico Bird and FL Lady Bug Stakes at Remington as a 2-year-old and has qualified for multiple stakes, including the Speedhorse Futurity (G3) and the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby (RG3). She has lifetime earnings of $227,735.

Dicecapades ($6.60) was a lukewarm favorite, sharing public support with the fastest qualifier, Mary Paintyourwagon. Mary Paintyourwagon defeated Damn Straight by a neck to set the fastest time from trials held on August 19.

Mary Paintyourwagon was bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, out of Marys Southernpolicy by Shazoom. Jorge Torres, the current leading rider in Altoona, had the call for trainer Stacy Charette-Hill and owner Leann J. Burns.

The filly was second in last year’s Iowa Double Gold Futurity as the post-time favorite and qualified for the Valley Junction Futurity. She has earned $85,268 in her 14 career starts, including five wins.

A neck behind Mary Paintyourwagon was Capshaw Capo and jockey Cesar Gomez. Trained by Donald D. Davidson, Jr. for owner Carmen Martinez, Capshaw Capo qualified for and placed fifth in the Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park earlier this year.

Capshaw Capo was bred in Alabama by Walter Chaney. The gelding is by Capo de Capi, out of Zoom a Strider, by Shazoom.

Completing the field were La Mos Pyc, Bout Tree Fiddy, My Radio Flyer and I Put It On Ya. Damn Straight, Eyes A Racin and Get There were scratched.
