Dtl Samureye Dominates Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 28, 2017—Dtl Samureye exchanged bumps early under jockey Jesse Levario then drove to a 1-¾ length win over Ojo Por Ojo in the $52,000 Grade 1 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity contested Saturday night at Lone Star Park. Posttime favorite Apollos Second Sign finished a nose back for third.

Saturday's win was the second in six starts for the son of Sf Royal Quick Flash owned by Almada Racing and conditioned by Alonso Neri. The Oklahoma-bred 2-year-old completed the 400 yards in :19.918 seconds, a 91-speed index over a fast racetrack.

Bred by Dean and Tonya Lester, Dtl Samureye picked up $19,760 to boost his bankroll to $32,720. He is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyesa Savvy Queen.

AQHA Racing champion jockey Ricky Ramirez had the riding call aboard runner-up Ojo Por Ojo for trainer Luis Villafranco. An Oklahoma homebred for owner/breeder Racin RNS, Ojo Por Ojo is an Appaloosa gelding from the Whirling Fastball mare Boppin Js Fastball. He earned $8,840 for the effort.

Coming off a win two-races back in the Cricket Bars Futurity at Will Rogers, Apollos Second Sign increased his bankroll to $34,789 after pocketing $5,750 for third. Michael Moss owns-and trains the Appaloosa daughter of first crop-sire Second Painted Sign from the Apollo (TB) mare Allies Apollo. Ronna Lively is the breeder and James Flores had the riding call.

Hotwire.com had the early lead in the going, but couldn’t hold on, finished fourth, but ended up as the Speedhorse Triple Crown High Point Champion honoree.

Mkp On the Wagon, Ima Good Time Charlie, El Diablo Chicken, Gb Star and Js Apollo Six completed the order of finish. Third fastest qualifier and only other contender for high point champion, Bully Pulpit was scratched from the race.

Third choice in the wagering, Dtl Samureye returned $10.80, $5.60 and $3.40. Ojo Por Ojo returned $3.60 and $2.60. Apollos Second Sign returned $2.40 for show.

Live racing resumes Thursday, November 2, with eight live races scheduled. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. First race post time is 6:35 p.m.
