Funny Munny Prevails In King Rick Rack Stakes

HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 22, 2017—Funny Munny dueled Grade 1 winner Zoomin Racer to a nose win in the $50,000 King Rick Rack Stakes Wednesday afternoon at Zia Park.

Ridden by jockey Francisco Amparan, Funny Munny completed the 870 yard course in :46 flat to earn a 90 speed index. It was the first career stakes win and sixth overall win for the son of Munnings (TB).

Adam Archuleta conditions the 5-year-old gelding for owner Leann Archuleta. Bred in Kentucky by Robert A. Gentry, from the First Down Dash mare Fodice, Funny Munny picked up $30,000 for the King Rick Rack win to boost his career mark past $105,700.

Runner-up Zoomin Racer, a multiple stakes winning son of Jess Zoomin, ended a four-race win streak that included the Grade 1 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship and the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Distance Challenge Championship in his last two starts.

He races for owner-trainer Fernando Carrete. Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez was aboard the 3-year-old Texas-bred out of Racing Winner by Runaway Winner. Bred by Jerry Windham, Zoomin Racer pocked $11,000 for second to push has earnings to $112,524.

Multiple stakes-placed Linda Tee Fire finished 4-1/2 lengths off the leaders to earn $5,000. Martin Orona, Sr. conditions the 8-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding for himself and owner RC Racing LLC. Alejando Medellin rode the Texas-bred out of Jess Linda Tee by Mr Jess Perry. Mark Smith, Charlie and Dixie Patterson bred the earner of nearly $340,000.

D E Wagons Strawfly, Jessa Little Rusty, Droppin Timber, Fire Thorn and Streakin Zoomer completed the field.
