PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 10, 2017—May Be Fantastic Sa, under jockey Emilio Tapia, raced to a new track record Sunday when he defeated Captain On Takeoff by three-quarters in the $18,000 Mike Hastings Memorial at Turf Paradise. Fj Blackdiamond finished another three-quarter back for third.

May Be Fantastic Sa broke the Turf Paradise 400 yard track record when he completed the race in :19.492 seconds with a 13 mph tailwind, earning a 105 speed index. The previous record of :19.494 seconds was established November 3, 2002 by Sir Leavin Laughing.

Trainer Ubaldo Guerrero saddled the multiple stakes winning son of Fantastic Corona Jr to his seventh career win for owner Orlando Guerrero. Bred in Oklahoma by Gianni Franco Samaja, May Be Fantastic Sa has compiled a (16) 7-1-4 record.

The $11,160 Mike Hastings winners' purse boosted his career total to nearly $90,000. Winner of last year's Turf Paradise Championship, May Be Fantastic Sa is out of the Tres Seis mare Darlin Treis.

Also a multiple stakes winner, runner-up Captain On Takeoff races for owner Encarnacion Baez and trainer Juan Figueroa. Luis Yescas, Jr. rode the Captain Courage 5-year-old out of Takeoff Royally by Frist Down Dash. Burnett Ranches LLC bred the sorrel gelding in Texas. He has banked $50,350.

Fernando Canales' Fj Blackdiamond earned $1,800 for finishing third. Coming off a win in the Wayne Brasher Legacy Stakes last month, the son of The Bounty Man is conditioned by Eloy Mendoza and ridden by Rodolfo Arvizu. Traci Aker bred the $55,906 money-earner in Arizona from the Heza Motor Scooter mare Sheza Princess Belle.

Justified and One Fast Jess completed the field. Jo Jo Hot Legs was scratched.
