Scholarly Holds In Dash For Speed Stakes Win

AURORA, CO—MAY 27, 2018—Under jockey Malouly Rodriguez Scholarly broke best then held off a late charge by post-time favorite Dauns Fist Desirio to win the $15,000 Dash For Speed Stakes by a neck Sunday afternoon at Arapahoe Park.

Conditioned by Jose Moreno, Scholarly covered the 330 yards in :16.664 seconds to earn a 102-speed index and pocket the $9,000 winners' purse.

The 4-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Tr Dasher races for owner Alberto Duenas. Bred in California by Edward C. Allred, from the Bono Jazz mare Now You Comeat Noon, the multiple stakes winner has banked $65,600.

Last year's AQHA Derby Challenge(G3) winner Dauns First Desirio picked up $3,000 for second to bring his earnings total to more than $136,000.

Eliazar Salas saddled the 4-year-old Desirio gelding for owner Rogelio Carbajal-Santos. Dan and Jolene Urschel bred the bay in Texas from the First Down Express mare First Daun Express.

Stormy Red Morning, a 6-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Red Storm Cat, finished 2 ¼ lengths off the leaders in third-place. Tim Weeder trains the gelding out of Sweet First Jean, by Sweet First Down, for owner/breeder Robert Rodgers. Jaciel Soto was aboard to earn $1,500. The multiple stakes-placed winner has earned $106,117.

Hearts One Hero and Im Beau Brown completed the field. He Too Looks Hot was scratched.
