Blazen Panther Dominates Expo Square Stakes

TULSA, OK—JUNE 23, 2018—Coming off a win in the Grade 2 Remington Park Distance Championship on June 2, Blazen Panther vied three wide before driving to a 1-¼ length win over multiple stakes winner Admiral Zoomwalt in the $17,500 Expo Square Stakes Saturday night at Fair Meadows.

Under jockey Daniel Torres, Blazen Panther completed the 870 yard task in :46.050 seconds, a 93 speed index into an 8 mph tailwind.

Owned-and-trained by Luz Chavira, the 7-year-old son of champion Panther Mountain, pushed his bankroll to $177,962 after pocketing $10,446 for the Expo victory. He has compiled a (38) 10-10-5 record.

B. Cockrell and L. Vanhoozer bred Blazen Panther in Oklahoma from the Blazen Bryan mare Blazen Madie. After taking two races at Remington Park the bay gelding is on a three-race win streak.

Winner of last year's Expo Square Stakes, Admiral Zoomwalt had to settled for second on Saturday night, earning $3,482 for owners Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and Kathy Robinson. Amanda Tongay trains the Shazoom 6-year-old from the First Down Dash mare Tellin It All. The sorrel gelding has earned nearly $152,000.

Blow Fly Crank, a 4-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Rock Solid Jess finished 7-½ lengths back to pick up $1,640 for third. He earned his first black type in the Expo Square for owner-trainer Donald Davidson, Jr. Bryan Ernst had the riding assignment aboard the Missouri bred gelding out of Dash Leader by Special Leader. Jon and Brant Barley are the breeder.

Completing the Expo Square field were Your Linus, Bazooka and Pbclassydiamondblanc.
