EVANSTON, WY—JULY 28, 2018—A pair of 3-year-old gelded son of multiple stakes sire Winners Version each won a trial to the Wyoming Downs Renegade Sports Derby on Saturday to post the top two qualifying times.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the two trial races, will return to Wyoming Downs on Saturday, August 11th to vie for the winner's share of an $8,500-added purse going 400 yards.

Ridden by leading jockey Cordarelton Benn, Champion Winner jumped to a quick lead then held to win by a half-a-length over Acadillac in the first trial. The son of Winners Version stopped the clock in :19.914 seconds, a 93 speed index with a 3 mph crosswind, to establish the top mark.

Trainer Tyler Gibbs saddled the stakes-placed Utah bred for owners Jimmie and Cheri Smith. Chad Richard bred Champion Winner from the Separatist mare Champions Way. He has compiled an (11) 3-3-0 record and banked $11,485.

In the second trial Lt Heza Winner flew late under jockey Oscar Cervantes to win by one-length and set the second fastest time of :19.982, a 91 speed index.

Trainer Diana Garfias saddled the Winners Version gelding out of Nurturist, by Separatist, for owner Aron Saenz. Tom Peterson is the breeder of the stakes-place winner of more than $18,400.

Trainer Riley Moosman joined Tyler Gibbs to each qualify two horses to the final.
