Texas Eye Dominates North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association Derby

FARGO, ND—JULY 27, 2018—Clearing the field by nearly three lengths, Texas Eye was the impressive winner of the $15,720 North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association Derby in Fargo on Friday night.

Texas Eye ($8.60) and jockey Francisco Estrada led early and appeared to be caught at the wire by Marmolly, but the outside foe was disqualified for interference and placed last.

Texas Eye was the second fastest overall qualifier from two trials on July 15. His winning time in the 400-yard final was 20.182 and he earned a 99 speed index.

The son of lost to fastest qualifier Little Speed Wagon in his trial, who finished fourth on Friday night. This was his first win in Fargo and his second win of 2018; he broke his maiden two starts back at Fair Meadows.

Texas Eye is trained by Amanda Harr for owner William Joe Geditz. He was bred by Randal Schwartz, out of the Mr Eye Opener mare An Eye Full.

The race for second place was closer, and Ms Veronica edged out Dashing Company by a head.

Ms Veronica and Jake Olesiak closed well for trainer Jim Fleming. Leon Glasser owns the Mighty Invictus filly, who was bred by Karen Glasser. She is out of the Rare News mare Little Love Affair.

Ms Veronica debuted at Remington as a 2-year-old and broke her maiden in her next start at Canterbury. She qualified for the $167,600 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury last summer and finished fifth in the final. Her trial was her first start at Fargo.

Dashing Company and Frank Johnson completed the trifecta from the rail. The Cole Wilson trainee has made all of his 12 lifetime starts at North Dakota tracks, but has not won since his breaking his maiden in Fargo a year ago.

Dashing Company is a homebred for Darrel Smith, sired by Free Company and out of Dashing Ten, by Dash to Chivato.

Completing the field were Little Speed Wagon, Cowboywannab, Cat and Company and Miss Vals Easy Cash. Marmolly finished first but was disqualified and placed last.
