AURORA, CO—AUGUST 12, 2018—Tyson Gay, a multiple stakes winning son of champion Foose, kept his perfect record in tact at 4-for-4 by defeating fastest qualifier Midnite Dash by three-quarters Sunday afternoon in the $115,300 Mile High Futurity at Arapahoe Park. Slayer finished 1-¼ lengths back to get third.
A $10,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate, Tyson Gay drifted out under jockey Eddie Aceves while completing the 400 yards in :19.610 seconds, a 101 speed index into a 10 mph headwind.
Conditioned by trainer Jose Moreno, the David Sanchez owned 2-year-old picked up the winners' purse valued at $46,120 to bring his 2018 total to $65,739.
Out of the Hawkinson mare Hawk Kue Pie, Tyson Gay also won the $31,825 AQRA Spring Fling Futurity at Turf Paradise in April.
Runner-up Midnite Dash entered the finals off the fastest qualifying time the July 27th trials. Trainer Hipolito Michel-Valverde conditions the son of multiple stakes sire Bodacious Dash for owners Pedro and Lilia Andazola.
Slayer, a son of leading third-crop sire High Rate Of Return, picked up $13,836 for his third-place finish. A finalist in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity last spring at Remington Park, Slayer races for owner-trainer Manuel Almanza, Jr.
Bob Moore Farms LLC bred the sorrel gelding in Oklahoma from the Shazoom mare Shiv Katall. He has compiled a (5) 2-1-1 record and banked $77,248 this season.
Completing the Mile High Futurity field were Logans Favorite, Invite A Favor, Capos Sassy Laaydee, One Two, Beyond Speed, Moshi Yoshi and Aint She Kool.
