CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 23, 2018—Trainer Tammy Kay Johnson saddled her second stakes winner on the Will Rogers Downs card Sunday when Viva Le Don defeated Charlies Fury by three-quarters in the $266,765 Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity. Lota Candy finished another three-quarters back in third.

Ridden by jockey Randy Wilson, Viva Le Don completed the 350 yards in :17.442 seconds, over fast racecourse, to earn a 99 speed index and pocket the winner's purse valued at $106,706.

Tammy Kay Johnson, who saddled Rock A Billy to victory in Race 4, the AQHA Will Rogers Distance Challenge, also trains Viva Le Don for Rockin J Running Horses. Johnson and Jack Manning bred the son Rock Solid Jess in Texas from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Viv Arriba.

Viva Le Don has compiled a (5) 2-1-0 record this year and earned $121,650. He broke his maiden in the Black Gold Futurity trials on September 8th after a short layoff after he finished fourth in the Heritage Place Juvenile at Remington Park June 2nd.

Michelle Hurdle conditions runner-up Charlies Fury for owner/breeders Tom and Kathleen McNally. James Flores rode the Oklahoma-bred son of champion sire Furyofthewind from the Take Off Jess mare Jess Charlena. The $45,350 second-place check boosted the sorrel gelding's earnings mark to $74,378.

R.L. Rick Robinson saddled third-place finisher Lota Candy for owner Lota Hero Racing. Jockey Andrew Samaniego was aboard the son of second-crop sire Lota Pyc. Bred in Oklahoma by Rick Sumner, from the Wave Carver mare Ranch Candy, Lota Candy has placed or shown in four of five starts this season an earned $36,861.

Money All Day, West Texas Dasher V, Cindy Easy Train, Tarish, Freighttrain B Fast, Mary Janes Hero and Bullittrain completed the Black Gold field.

An additional $14,040 was paid in stallion awards for the Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity.
