SHELBYVILLE, IN—OCTOBER 4, 2018— Stinkin Rich and Shanley Jackson accomplished a lot of goals during their win in the 22nd running of the Hoosier Park Classic today (Friday).

The six-year-old flashy grey gelding won his third straight title in the race and solidified his status as Indiana's all-time leading Quarter Horse for earnings, inching just over the $500,000 mark with his win in the stakes, one of the original stakes races from the inaugural season of pari-mutuel Quarter Horse racing in 1997 held at Hoosier Park.

Starting from post eight in the 10-horse lineup, Stinkin Rich got a clean break and was in contention for the top spot the entire 400-yard distance. In the final strides, he had one final surge that brought him to the wire first, winning by a neck over Beach Cartel and Cerapio Figueroa on the inside. WH Design By Dash and Rodney Prescott finished a nose back in third. The time of the race was :19.998 seconds.

"He broke well, he had a clean trip and he kicked into another gear about halfway down the stretch," said Jackson. "You couldn't ask for a better trip. And it makes you feel good that the owner trusts me with him. That's always a good thing and I thank Mr. Matt (Frazier) and Ms. Carolyn (Bruce) for giving me this opportunity."

Jackson has now won two straight races on Stinkin Rich, who now has in excess of $502,000 in career earnings. The One Famous Eagle gelding scored his 12th trip to the winner's circle in his 21st start, all recorded at Indiana Grand.

Stinkin Rich, who set the stakes record for the Hoosier Park Classic during the 2016 running in a time of :19.730 seconds, was nearly the favorite in the field, paying $6.00, $3.40, $2.60 across the board. He was bred by owner Carolyn Bruce of Lawrenceburg, Ind. and is trained by Matt Frazier, who is based out of the Ashwood Training Center near Lexington, Ky.

"He spiked a little fever yesterday morning and gave us a little concern," said Frazier. "But it came back down and he went right to his feed tub. I think he likes to keep us on our toes. You couldn't ask for a more professional race that what he gave us today."

Although Frazier has a string stabled at Indiana Grand, he keeps Stinkin Rich with him full time at Ashwood Training Center. Frazier keeps him off the track as much as possible, which keeps him sound and ready to go at race time.

"He does all underwater training," added Frazier. "He goes in the underwater treadmill and then one or two times a week, we take him to the pool for some extra training. The only time he's on the track is with the pony. It's easier to keep him sound that way." In regards to the future for Stinkin Rich, Bruce adds, "As long as he loves his job, we will keep racing. I've always said we will let him tell us when he's done. As long as he wants to run, we will bring him back next year."

The 16th season of Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horse racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 7. Racing is conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m.
