Cd Proud Flyin D Kas Takes K.C. Carden Wyoming Bred Derby at Wyoming Downs

EVANSTON, WY—AUGUST 3, 2019—In her first career win, Cd Proud Flyin D Kas cleared the field as the gate-to-wire winner of the $23,500 K.C. Carden Wyoming Bred Derby at Wyoming Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Cd Proud Flyin D Kas ($14.00) and jockey Tyson Lusk covered the 350-yard race in 17.571 and earned a speed index of 96.

Cd Proud Flyin D Kas was the second fastest qualifier to the final from three trials held on July 20. She was second in her trial, finishing a nose behind fastest qualifier Mercedes Amg.

The 3-year-old Wyoming-bred filly is trained by Diana Garfias and is owned by Daniel and Carol Lee. She was bred by Jeff and Leslie Makovy, out of Jps Super De Lizzie, by Super De Easy.

Cd Proud Flyin D Kas broke her maiden in Saturday’s stakes win and now has earnings of $15,705. She was third in the Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association Derby earlier this summer.

Vvr Im Special Now finished in second place, three-quarters of a length behind the winner and just a nose ahead of Vvr No Refunds.

Jesus Virgen was aboard Vvr Im Special Now, who is trained by Skyler Greene and owned by Toni Snyder. The 3-year-old daughter of Im Alright Now was bred in Wyoming by Mike Lipp, out of the Kipas Special mare Kipas Special Girl. She was the fourth fastest qualifier to Saturday’s final.

Vvr Im Special Now made her seventh career start and second start in a stakes race in the Derby. Earlier this year, she qualified for the Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association Derby at Energy Downs in June.

Fifth fastest qualifier Vvr No Refunds completed the trifecta. Vvr No Refunds was ridden by Oscar Cervantes for trainer Jay Pitcher and owner Anais Robles. She was bred in Wyoming by Mike Lipp, by Coronas Velvet and out of the Apollo mare Apollo Storm.

Vvr No Refunds is now multiple stakes placed with $15,612 in career earnings. She was third in the Wyoming Bred Futurity at Sweetwater last fall and qualified for the Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association Derby.

Completing the field were Cd Okie Dokie Proud, My Illusive Secret, A Dash of Dynasty, Vvr Don’t Sugarcoatit, Cd Tequila Sunrise and Rg Double Trouble. Fastest qualifier Mercedes Amg was scratched.
