AJAX, ONT–AUGUST 17, 2022–After winning the Princess Derby back in June, jockey Ismael Mosqueira and Eye Live For Candy return to Ajax Downs for their third consecutive win this season and set the fastest qualifying time to the $45,000 (CAN) added Picov Derby.
Drawing the 4 hole, Mosqueira and Eye Live For Candy busted out in the lead and were two-lengths ahead of the field by first call. With a 15 mph crosswind, the duo kept up the fast pace from wire-to-wire for an easy win by 2 1/4-lengths in 19.985 seconds. Clocking a 99 speed index in the 400-yard race, the winning effort paid $4.00 on a $2.00 wager.
Bred by Clay Hinck of Wyoming, Eye Live For Candy has four career wins and $57,691 in the bank. The daughter of current leading sophomore sire A Revenant is out of Eyesa Candy Maker by Eyesa Special.
Eye Live For Candy’s trainer Jason Pascoe conditioned seven of the Picov Derby qualifiers and her owner Milena Kwiecien is the owner of five, including second fastest qualifier Sw The Redeemer.
Sw The Redeemer, guided by J. B. Botello, won his trial heat to the Picov Derby with energy to spare. The 3/4-length win in :20.001 seconds against a 15 mph crosswind was the fastest time of his career clocking a 96 speed index. Going in with 4/1 odds at post-time, the victory paid $11.80 to win on a $2.00 bet.
The gelding son of Hes Relentless has four career wins with earnings of $52,938. Bred by Sherry Wingfield of Oklahoma, Sw The Redeemer is out of Rockin Miss Kitty by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
