Aj Prince Gets His Second Win In Row, Taking Remington Park Allowance Feature

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 19, 2024–AJ Prince broke like a rocket from the gate and won like a king, taking the allowance feature Sunday night to win his second race in a row at Remington Park.

Jockey Ali Rivera had the pedal to the medal aboard this 4-year-old gelded son of

Apollitical Jess, out of the Fishers Dash mare Taka Puna. AJ Prince had a tougher time than his first win at Remington Park this meet, but still wound up in the winner’s circle.

AJ Prince had won an allowance race for non-winners of three career races on April 26 with Rivera up by a full length at 440 yards. Tonight, trainer James "JJ" Gonzalez III shortened him up to 350 yards with a bit tougher company among allowance non-winners of four and it shortened up his margin of victory to a nose.

AJ Prince was sent off as the 2-1 second wagering favorite in the race and outlasted runner-up Relentlessly Fast (18-1) in a photo finish. Rare Roy (8-5 betting favorite) checked in third, another half-length length behind. Running time for the winner was :17.647 over the fast track for a speed-index of 90.

AJ Prince earned $17,334 for owner Billy Tarango of Pecos, Texas, and improved overall to 19 starts, four wins, two seconds and three thirds for a bankroll of $77,863. He was purchased for $78,000 in the 2021 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale. It was the gelding’s third win in six starts in Oklahoma City. He was bred in Oklahoma by Rancho El Cabresto.

AJ Prince paid $6.80 to win, $4.60 to place and $2.80 to show. The big longshot Relentlessly Fast in second paid $17 to place and $4.60 to show. The combination of the two returned $113 on a $2 exacta payout.

Two weeks remain in this American Quarter Horse/Paint/Appaloosa meet. Live racing returns next week with a Thursday-Sunday schedule, May 23-26. First post time nightly is 6 p.m. with the exception of Sunday when the first race goes off at 4 p.m.
