Secretarysbestcard Wins $83,000 Grants Pass Downs' Firecracker Futurity

GRANTS PASS, OR–JULY 4, 2024–JBC Stables' Secretarysbestcard drifted out while racing to her second consecutive win in four starts this season on Thursday when she defeated Mighty Panama T in the $83,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs. Bee A Tempting Queen was three-quarters back to finish third.

Under jockey Jose C. Guerrero, Secretarysbestcard raced to a three-quarter length victory, clocking 17.531 seconds, a 94-speed index for 350 yards.

Tiffani McDevitt trains the daughter of multiple stakes sire Docs Best Card. Jose Juan Baca bred Secretarysbestcard in Oregon from the Returning (TB) mare Chicks Wildcat. The bay filly earned $33,200 to boost her bankroll to $35,560 with a (4) 2-0-0 record. 

In May, she was a finalist in the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity Consolation (not black type).

Mighty Panama T earned $14,110 for her second-place effort. Jake Samuels had the riding call aboard the Panama Wes filly for owner-breeder and trainer Jose Luis Torres. Bred in Oregon from the Mighty Corona mare L Bar D Mighty Fine, Mighty Panama T was also a Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity finalist. Winless in four starts, she has earned $17,615.

Alberto Avila's Bee A Tempting Queen earned $9,130 for third. Jockey Salvador Ibarra rode the Tempting Dash filly for trainer Mario Portillo. Thomas Lepic bred Bee A Tempting Queen in Oklahoma from the Tres Seis mare Signs Of A Blue Moon. Second in the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity Consolation (not black type), the maiden filly has earned $10,990 in four starts.

Secretarysbestcard returned $8 to win, $7.40 to place, and $6.60 to show. Mighty Panama paid $10 to place and $8.80 to show, while Bee A Tempting Queen returned $5.40 to show.

Eyez On Corona, Famous Prizes, Lo Pintas Cartel, Hunny Moon, Brand Artist, and Tf One Dashin Lajolla completed the field.

Lee Five T  Wins Firecracker Futurity Consolation

Lee Five T (15-1) bumped at the start but recovered nicely under jockey Salvador Ibarra, to win $14,000 Firecracker Futurity Consolation (not black type) by half-a-length at Grants Pass Downs

Lee Five T completed the 350 yards in 17.665 seconds, equaling a 90-speed index on a fast racing surface. It was his second career win in four starts. Owned and trained by Jose Luis Torres, Lee Five T earned $7,000 for the effort, boosting his bankroll to $9,000.

Herman Torres bred the colt in Oregon from the Giorgino mare L Bar D Bonnie Lee. Earlier this year, Lee Five T also qualified for the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity consolation.

Runner-up Ccr Political Wrap and jockey Santiago Jimenez chased late to earn $3,500 for second. Hector Magallanes trains the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess for owner-breeders Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing. The Oregon homebred is out of Wrap You Up by Walk Thru Fire.

Three Step Plan finished a neck back to earn $1,680 for third. Jockey Jose Rodriguez had the riding assignment for trainer Emilio Guerrero. Boardshorts Stables, LLC owns the Apollitical Jess colt from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Kokko Wagon. Leann Burns bred the $92,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate in Oklahoma.

Lee Five T rewarded backers with a $30.40 win payoff, a $13 place payday, and $7.20 to show.

Ts Jess Attack, The Great One L Bar D Little Man, Red Lady, Soy Catalina, and Casino Fly completed the field.
