Dr Drip Wins Magnolia Stakes by Two Lengths

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 13, 2010—Anthony Arey's Dr Drip took over the stretch and pulled away to win the $40,000 Magnolia Stakes by two lengths on Saturday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.

Also saddled by Arey, the 6-year-old First To Shine gelding completed the course in :46.426 seconds with Danny Lavergne in the saddle. Bred in Louisiana by Richard De Vargas, Dr Drip picked up the winner's share of $24,000 for his effort.

We Want Cash, owned by Bobbi Randle and Melvin Hogan, was second. The Toast To Dash 5-year-old was handled by Ray Robbins with Gilbert Ortiz getting the riding assignment. He earned $8,000.

A neck back in third was race favorite Slinkys Fortune, owned and trained by Henry Padgett. Jockey Orlando Baldillez rallied wide off the turn to get up for third and pickup $4,400 for the effort by the 6-year-old Dashs Slinky gelding.

Completing the field were First Down Toro, Cajuns Game, Starlington, and Da Money Maker. Second race favorite Such Easy Profit, got off to bad start and had to settle for last.

Quarter Horse racing runs Saturday through Tuesday at Louisiana Downs. Sunday and Monday's post is set for 1:00 p.m.

A special 12:30 p.m. post on Tuesday will kick-off 14 trials races for the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2).
