Canterbury Park / Andrea Thelen
SHAKOPEE, MN—AUGUST 29, 2010—Champion and multiple stakes sire Tres Seis sired both the winner to the Minnesota Quarter Horse Futurity and Minnesota Quarter Horse Derby on Sunday afternoon, closing day for the 2010 meet at Canterbury Park.
Seis it Fast, owned by Bob and Julie Petersen of Cokato, Minnesota, won the $18,250 Minnesota Quarter Horse Futurity.
The two-year-old Minnesota bred son of Tres Seis won all five starts at Canterbury this summer and has earned $38,725. He won the 350-yard Futurity by a neck in 18.523 seconds and paid $2.20 to win. Ry Eikleberry rode for trainer Edward Ross Hardy.
The home-bred colt is out of Chic N Traffic by Dash Thru Traffic.
The Petersen's were also the leading quarter horse owners at Canterbury this year with nine wins and $66,152 in purse money. They have raced at Canterbury since the late ‘80s and are the all-time leaders in Canterbury history in wins, 64, and purse money, $561,812.
Rodney Von Ohlen's V Os Nicotine finished a neck off the winner to earn $3,650. Also trained by Hardy, the First Smart Money gelding was ridden by Nik Goodwin.
A nose back in third Lien On Me picked up $2,738 for owner Tom Pouliot. Brent Clay saddled the Brimmerton gelding ridden by Thomas Wellington.
Completing the field were Cs Arc Light, Cuervo On Special, Keezhik and Mitch Rapp.
Six It Up Easy Winner in Minnesota Quarter Horse Derby
Steven Pribyl's Six It Up had an easier time in the Minnesota Quarter Horse Derby, as the filly ran off to a 1 ¾ length victory.
Six It Up, under jockey Thomas Wellington, is all alone at the Minnesota Quarter Derby wire on Sunday.

Robert and Julie Petersen's Oak Tree Boulevard finished second under jockey Ry Eikleberry. The Oak Tree Special gelding trained by Ed Ross Hardy earned $3,640.
It’s a Jazzin Time was another ¾ back for the show position. The Jazzing Hi filly owned by Mario Torres picked up $2,730. Trained by Stephen Kane, the chestnut miss was ridden by Mike Luark.
Completing the field were Rockn On Ready, Okeys Irish Brew, C S Spotlight, Tres Bullion and Sommer Special.
Canterbury’s 62-day summer race season came to a close today with the 17th renewal of the Minnesota Festival of Championships, a day of racing dedicated to Minnesota-bred horses.
