GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 13, 2010—Johnny Trotter’s Bodacious Dash, trained by Trey Wood, outran nine opponents in winning the Grade 1, $1,036,612 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

With regular rider Ricky Ramirez in the irons, the Texas-bred son of First Down Dash was quick out of the gate and strong to the finish in covering the 400-yard distance in 19.518 seconds, earning a speed index of 101.

Bob and Jerry Gaston bred Bodacious Dash out of the Mr Jess Perry mare St Pats Tea. The Texas couple are also the breeders of leading contender for 2010 world champion, Double Down Special, winner of the All American Derby(G1) at Ruidoso Downs last summer. Double Down Special is expected to make his next start in the $750,000 Champion of Champions(G1) on December 11th at Los Alamitos Race Course.

After a bumpy start, American Runaway finished a head behind in second, and it was another head back to post time favorite Dm Streakn Thru Fire in third.

“He ran the race of his life,” said winning trainer Trey Wood. “He got away from the gate amazing, and when he gets away like that, I think he’s one of the toughest horses in the world to beat because he has such a big kick at the end. When he left like that, I didn’t think there was any way they were going to catch him.”

“This has been a good horse ever since we qualified him for the Ruidoso Futurity and the Rainbow Futurity, but he would always fail to break well in the finals,” added winning jockey Ricky Ramirez. “We couldn’t have gotten away any better tonight and he got it done. He likes the distance, so when he broke in front, I knew they were going to have a hard time catching him ”

It was a fitting end to the meet for the winner as well as his trainer and jockey. Bodacious Dash was named Horse of the Meet while Wood and Ramirez were honored in winner’s circle ceremonies earlier in the evening as the leading trainer and jockey, respectively, for the 2010 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses.
