BOOSIER CITY, LA—MARCH 6, 2012—Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Carters Cartel got his first winner Monday when Cartels Lady broke her maiden at first asking in a 220 yard race at Louisiana Downs.
Racing for Tommy Hayes and Charles Forbes, Jr., the brown filly out of Newport Lady by Chicks Beduino, won by three-quarters under jockey David Alvarez. Saddled by Bobby Martinez, Cartels Lady completed her task in :12.180 seconds, earning an 89 speed index.
Carters Cartel, a son of the #2 leading living sire of money earners, Corona Cartel, won or placed in nine of 10 career starts, earning $659,146. He was named the AQHA Racing Two-Year-Old Champion colt of 2007 after winning the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1), Kindergarten Futurity(G1) and qualifying to the Golden State Million Futurity(G1) and PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity(G1). In his only start at 3, he finished third in the Vandy's Flash Handicap(G1).
Out of the champion Tolltac mare Jumping Tac Flash, Carters Cartel is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and #3 Leading First Crop Sire of 2011 Tac It Like a Man; stakes winner and Los Alamitos Million Futurity(G1) runner-up Flash First; stakes winner and multiple graded stakes producer Imjumpn; Grade 1 placed A Tac First and stakes-placed Tac Off.
Last season Tac It Like a Man sired five stakes winners of $1.12 million including grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity(G1) winner Igotyourtac ($577,067)and Rainbow Futurity(G1) runner-up The Long Knife ($188,085).
